to terminate my lease. I was told by an employee that I needed to pay the fee to terminate and that it would be processed in 30 days. The ability to pay the fee never showed up in my resident portal, so I called multiple times over multiple weeks and no one ever answered the phone. I left voicemails and no one ever returned my calls. Finally I got a hold of someone named Sabrina, who told me that they actually don’t allowed lease terminations but that they have a relet policy and I would need to find someone to take over my lease, despite previously being told that I could terminate my lease and my roommates were allowed to terminate their lease. I read through my lease agreement which very clearly stipulates the process and fee for a lease termination and explicitly states that I’m forbidden to sublet my apartment without written authorization from the property manager. I ended up writing an email highlighting the stipulations of my lease agreement that allow me to terminate my lease and pointed out that “The Rive” is not fulfilling their obligation to allow me to terminate my lease and therefore violating my legally binding contract. I think the email was sent all the way up to their larger company “Core Spaces” because that’s who I was in communication with after that email. But the community manager for Core Spaces that I emailed with was actually very helpful. He allowed me to terminate my lease and explained what I needed to do. I think “The Rive” is a super sketchy building to rent with. The building seems nice but the management and employees obviously don’t know how to do their jobs and are probably breaking tenant laws and violating contracts left and right. So if you ever rent anywhere make sure you actually read your lease agreement. Don’t let them bully you into something just because they say it’s policy. I’m glad my situation could be resolved but I know they’ve taken advantage of lots of other young people who maybe aren’t able to stand up for themselves in these situations.
see morerefused to fix and also refused to give any compensation for the fact that the apartment on the especially smelly days was unbearable to be in (they told us to open a window??). There was a shift in front desk employees before move out, so I’m unsure if she still works at the Rive, but the building office manager was actually one of the rudest and most disrespectful people I’ve ever interacted with. You would get snapped at just asking to get a package, and sometimes if you asked a question she wouldn’t even look up from her phone, while giving a rude reply. Don’t consider living here until they hopefully clean up their act (and their water heaters).
